CAIRO – 6 September 2017: Pope Tawadros II of Alexandria and Patriarch of Saint Mark’s Diocese visited the Parliament of the Commonwealth of Australia at Canberra where he met a number of parliamentarians including the Australian Senate speaker and an opposition leader.

He also met Immigration and Border Protection Peter Dutton and the Governor-general of Australia Peter Cosgrove at Canberra who expressed sense of optimism about all Copts worldwide.

Meanwhile, Pope Tawadros II holds a press conference at the Australian Parliament attended by the Egyptian ambassador to Australia, Mohammed Khairat, Soriel Bishop of Melbourne Australia. Pope Tawadros II granted officials he met photos of the Virgin Mary, known in Arabic as Maryam “Umm Eisa”.

Pope Tawadros II arrived in Australia a week ago, the second leg of his papal tour which began in Japan.

The pope's visit to Australia will continue until September 13.
