CAIRO – 6 September 2017: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi arrived at Noi Bai International Airport at Hanoi, Vietnam in an official visit where he was received by a number of senior officials.

Sisi is the first Egyptian President to visit Vietnam since establishing the diplomatic relations between the two countries, according to the presidential statement issued on Wednesday.

At the start of the visit’s agenda, Sisi laid a wreath at the memorial of the late Vietnamese president Ho Chi Minh, and then he visited Vietnam’s President Tran Dai Quang at the Presidential Palace at Hanoi.

In the honor of Sisi’s visit, official reception was held, honored guard reviewed and the national anthems of the two countries were played.

During a meeting held between the two officials, the Vietnamese president hailed Egypt’s important role in defending developing countries’ issues and supporting liberation movements.

The Vietnamese president praised the role of the Egyptian political leadership in realizing achievements along the last three years.

He also emphasized that Sisi’s visit will definitely bolster relations between Vietnam and Egypt in bilateral cooperation in all domains.

For his part, Sisi praised the development achievement, asserting Egypt’s hope to intensify cooperation with Vietnam and benefiting from its experience in industry and trade fields.

Sisi reviewed, during his meeting, Egypt’s sustainable economic development implemented by the Egyptian government, including major national projects.

Meanwhile, the two leaders discussed means of combating terrorism, agreeing on the importance of the unification of the international society’s efforts in order to fight extremism.

Sisi highlighted al-Azhar role, as a moderate religious institution in the Middle East, in facing terrorist believes and spreading authentic Islamic doctrines including tolerance and moderation.

Discussions also tackled a number of regional and international issues with common interest such as the crisis in the Middle East.

Sisi invited his Vietnam counterpart to visit Egypt, a matter that welcomed by the Vietnam president who expressed appreciation.

Sisi’s visit came in the aftermath of Egypt’s participation and Vietnam in the BRICS summit lately held in China.

Sisi is expected to hold a meeting with the Vietnamese prime minister as well as senior officials in order to discuss means of boosting important relations combing the two countries.
