CAIRO – 20 August 2017: President of Somalia Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has arrived in Cairo on Sunday morning for his first formal visit since taking office in February 2017.

According to the presidential statement, the visit is aiming to enhance the Egyptian-Somali relations, as several issues are expected to be discussed during the talks between Farmajo and President Abdelfatah al-Sisi.

A formal reception ceremony has been held in the Ittihadia Presidential Palace.
The African–Egyptian relations has been on the top of Sisi’s priorities since taking office, as his first Participation in the African Union Summit on June 2014 in the Equatorial Guinea was considered a restoration of the African-Egyptian relations after years of neglect during Mubarak’s era.

On Monday, August 14, Sisi embarked on a four-day African tour where he visited Tanzania, Rwanda, Gabon and Chad.
