CAIRO – 16 August 2017: The Egyptian Health Ministry set up 50 quarantines in 36 land, sea and airports to provide proper health care to the pilgrims before and after performing rites of pilgrimage, according to Egypt's Health Minister Dr. Ahmed Emad Eldin Rady.

The minister also emphasized that the said quarantines were installed in order to prevent infection, transmission and breakout of diseases.

He also added that a meeting will be shortly held with the airlines to promote awareness of the importance of early detection of infectious diseases. One hundred ambulances were deployed to all ports in anticipation of any critical conditions during the pilgrims' return.

Amr Qandil, head of the ministry’s preventive medicine sector, met earlier on Sunday with the haj mission’s preventive team to discuss a preventive plan set by the ministry for this year's haj season.

Qandil said the team consists of three groups and are responsible for following up and monitoring the health conditions of pilgrims.

The team vaccinated all pilgrims against meningitis before their travel to perform the haj ritual, he added.

Saudi Arabia is currently bracing for receiving Muslims from all over the world for the once-in-a-year pilgrimage season, whose rituals are regularly performed in Mecca and Medina.
