CAIRO –16 Aug 2017: MP Mohammed al-Ghoul, deputy of the parliament’s Human Rights Committee, denounced the German authorities’ release of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) group’s fugitive Abdel Rahman Ezz, who was briefly detained by the International Police (Interpol) at Berlin Schoenefeld Airport on Tuesday.

This came after an arrest warrant was sent by the Egyptian Interior Minister to Interpol because of terrorist charges.

A verdict against Ezz was issued in Egypt, where he was sentenced to 20 years in prison and placed under police surveillance for five years. Ezz is charged with inciting violence, burning police stations, and imprisoning and torturing 49 detainees during the Ithadeya events.

Al-Ghoul stated that the Egyptian authorities should address the political leadership in Germany to justify the reasons and conditions for the release of the wanted terrorist, asserting that his release is the best evidence that the terrorist Brotherhood organization is backed by international intelligence.

He said that the release of Ezz came as a cooperation of the German government with the Brotherhood, adding "we must apply the principle of reciprocity. There is an agreement to exchange those wanted between Egypt and Germany, and the German authorities should respect that Abdel Rahman Ezz is on the wanted list.”

Ezz posted a video on his Facebook account in which he called on human rights organizations and global media to intervene and help save him.
