CAIRO - 8 August 2017: President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi received on Tuesday a call from Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades ahead of a summit set to be held between the two presidents during the next few days.

During the call, both leaders expressed pride in the relations binding Egypt and Cyprus and stressed the need to further strengthen ties between the two countries. President Anastasiades praised the “excellent political consultation” between the two countries on regional and international issues of common concern.

For his part, President Sisi also praised Cyprus' stances in support of Egypt's efforts to establish stability in the Middle East and the Mediterranean region.

The Egyptian-Cypriot Business Council has recently been restructured, and its Egyptian members visited Cyprus in late July to prepare for the summit, which is expected to be highly economic.

Cypriot investments in Egypt reached $1.07 million, while the volume of trade between the two countries amounted to about €71 million ($83.5M) in 2015, and in 2016 reached about €42.3 million. On another note, Egyptian exports to the Cyprus market in 2016 amounted to €27.3 million and €15 million for imports.

In October 2015, an Egyptian-Greek-Cypriot summit was held in Cairo between President Sisi, Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades and Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.
