CAIRO – 2 August 2017: Combating tax evasion head in Alexandria governorate was arrested after being accused of receiving a bribe estimated at LE 2 million ($ 1.1 million) from beach renters in North Coast.

According to the Administrative Control Authority (ACA) statement on Wednesday, the defendant threatened renters to report them for violating the renting rules if they did not pay him.

Investigation is still underway according to the statement, while searching for other officials who may be involved in the incident continues.

Arresting the tax evasion head comes within the government anti-corruption strategy.

On Monday night, Alexandria Court of Misdemeanors sentenced former director of Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA) Ismail Serageldin to three-and-a-half year in prison on charges of embezzling LE 20 million.

Serageldin is accused of renting facilities affiliated to the library at low price, hiring advisers with tens of thousands of pounds and travelling on private tours at the library's expense.
