Interior min releases 296 prisoners upon presidential pardon

CAIRO – 23 July 2017: Two hundred ninety six prisoners were released Sunday morning due to presidential pardon celebrating the July 23 Revolution anniversary.

The prisons sector affiliated to the Ministry of Interior has been examining the prisoners’ files during the past period to mark those who meet the presidential pardon conditions.

“This procedure comes within the ministry strategy of rehabilitating prisoners to rejoin their communities,” the statement read.

Presidential pardon for releasing prisoners is a familiar and repeated procedure during feasts and on revolution anniversaries.

On June 23, President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi pardoned 502 prisoners on Eid al-Fitr, and on January 25, the Ministry of Interior released 1,280 prisoners in celebration of the Revolution anniversary.
