CAIRO - 22 July 2017: Egypt called on Israel to immediately halt violence against the Palestinians in Al Quds city and in the vicinity of Al Aqsa Mosque, said the Foreign Ministry in a statement on Friday.

Egypt is deeply concerned over the repercussions of this escalation, expressing its profound regret at Israel's excessive use of force that left innocent Palestinian civilians dead and injured, the statement said.

It stressed the necessity of Israel's respect of the sanctity of religious sites and the right of the Palestinian people to freely perform their religious rituals.

The statement urged the Israeli government to act wisely in order to avoid being dragged into a quagmire that will torpedo all efforts exerted to encourage the Palestinian and Israeli sides to resume negotiations to reach a lasting and just settlement of the Palestinian cause.
