CAIRO – 16 July 2017: A Judiciary source revealed to Egypt Today that the investigation of the case publicly known as the “Wheat Silos Corruption” by the public prosecution is almost done and the results will be announced within days.

The source said on Friday that the prosecution finished checking the experts committee’s report to make a decision on either terminating the lawsuit or referring it to the Criminal Court.

The reports of experts and supervision agencies detected a huge deficit up to LE 600 million ($33.38million) in 18 silos, a barn and a bunker in six governorates.

The owners of these storage houses reported larger quantities than those actually existed which resulted in an overpayment by the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade.
The owners have been accused of also mixing both local and imported wheat, which has different weights, in order to make the quantities weigh more.

Accused of exploiting their authority with members of the committees in charge of supplying wheat, the owners allegedly worked with committee members to forge sorting and delivering receipts. Committee members confirmed these allegations in the prosecution interrogations.

The lawsuit includes 20 incidents in which silo and barn owners and employees at the ministries of agriculture, and supply were implicated and interrogated.

These employees prepared fake reports of cultivated lands by certain farmers and agricultural land tenants, proving that they supplied wheat to certain silos and barns.
Some owners refunded the designated amounts due and were released, while others owing over LE 100 million ($5.56 million) are at large.
