Sudan backs Khattab for UNESCO director general: El-Oraby

CAIRO - July 14: Sudanese minister of Communication & Information Ahmed Othman said his country backs Moushira Khattab for the UNESCO director general post. Othman told Ambassador Muhamed El-Oraby, Egyptian member parliament and head of election campaign for Khattab, El-Oraby told parliament journalists according to Vetogate Friday.

Othman arrived in Cairo to attend the meeting of Arab ministers of communication and information.

The Arab Republic of Egypt officially announced the nomination of ambassador Khattab for the post of UNESCO director general. The UNESCO Executive Board will elect a new director general in 2017. Khattab has experience in the fields of international diplomacy, social and human development. including children and women’s rights, legal reform, education and human rights advocacy.

Her experience includes posts at the UN Headquarters in New York, UNIDO headquarters in Vienna and the OHCHR in Geneva including 10 years as Rapporteur for the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child.
