CAIRO – 8 July 2017: Secretary General of the League of Arab States (AL) Ahmed Aboul Gheit welcomed a decision by the UNESCO to register the Old City of Hebron and the Tomb of Patriarchs as heritage sites that belong to the State of Palestine.

The AL chief saluted the Arab group over their efforts to win the vote by the UNESCO's World Heritage Committee which resulted in putting the sites on danger list.

He greeted the Palestinian leadership and diplomacy for the success, said Mahmoud Afify, a spokesman for the Secretary General.

Hebron’s Old City will become the third site registered under the State of Palestine since the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization recognized it as a member state in 2011.
