CAIRO - 6 July 2017: A Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialist at Luxor General Hospital continued doing an operation on a woman in labor despite experiencing bleeding and exhaustion that almost cost her own life.

Dr. Ahmed Hamza, head of Luxor Medical Syndicate said in a statement to Egypt Today that this is such a heroic act, noting that syndicate will honor the doctor for her exemplary role in which she “set an example for dedication and sacrifice during work,” and proved that the profession of medicine is “not only a profession, but also a message of mercy and care to the patient.”

Dr. Mervat Mohamed Talaat, who was also pregnant, sacrificed herself and her baby while doing her job at the Luxor General Hospital, to save a woman in labor from a village in Luxor, where the doctor was performing a C-section operation on her, during that, the doctor felt terrible pain and bleeding, but refused to stop and insisted on completing the operation, until the pregnant woman gave birth to her baby safely.

Other doctors were called to complete the follow-up operation, after the success of the birth operation of the patient was confirmed, as well as the health and safety of the baby.

Dr. Talaat was then immediately transferred to the operations room, where Dr Hamza, senior surgeon of obstetrics and gynecology in Luxor, made a check up on her. She turned out to be experiencing a complication in her pregnancy called “Ectopic pregnancy”, which led to miscarriage. Dr. Hamza helped treat Dr. Talaat, to stop the bleeding. She was transferred to one of the hospital rooms to receive the necessary treatment from the repercussions of severe bleeding.
