CAIRO – 4 May 2024: Pope Tawadros II, the Pope of Alexandria and the head of the Coptic Orthodox Church, will lead the Holy Resurrection (Easter) Mass tonight at St. Mark's Coptic Orthodox Cathedral in Abbassiya, Cairo.

The celebration is expected to be attended by representatives of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, along with several ministers, senior officials, state figures, representatives from Al-Azhar, and members of the House of Representatives and the Senate.

Joining the Pope during the mass will be bishops, priests, and the choir of the Coptic Orthodox Theological College, led by Archdeacon Ibrahim Ayad, as well as Coptic congregants from various dioceses.

The prayers will be broadcasted on Egyptian TV, Coptic channels, and the official page of the church's spokesman.

Easter, also known as Resurrection Sunday, is a Christian festival and cultural holiday that commemorates the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, as described in the New Testament.

According to Christian belief, it is said to have occurred on the third day after his crucifixion by the Romans at Calvary around 30 AD.

Yesterday, Pope Tawadros led the Good Friday Mass at the Cathedral in the presence of numerous bishops and priests.
